Turin

The home of Juventus — a city of history, art, royal palaces and the Alps.

The City

A royal capital at the foot of the Alps

Turin is the political and administrative heart of Italy’s Piedmont region, and a city steeped in history, art and culture. Founded by the Romans, it became the first capital of a unified Italy in 1861 it was from the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, with its capital here, that Italian unification began.

A noble, aristocratic city, Turin owes much of its identity to the House of Savoy, who ruled here for centuries and turned it into a great centre of culture. Despite a population of around two million, it remains calm and elegant framed by the Alps and crossed by the River Po.

House of Savoy

Centuries of royal rule left Turin a city of grand palaces — Palazzo Madama, Stupinigi and the Reggia di Venaria Reale.

Baroque architecture

Outstanding Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical and Art Nouveau — much of it shaped by the architect Filippo Juvarra.

The Alps & the Po

A striking setting between mountains and river. Sestriere and Bardonecchia are among Italy's favourite ski resorts.

Egyptian Museum

The largest collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world after Cairo — one of the city's unmissable sights.

The Holy Shroud

Kept in Turin's Duomo and, by Christian tradition, the cloth used for Christ's burial — world-famous and unique.

Mole Antonelliana

The city's towering symbol, now home to the National Cinema Museum — and one of Turin's defining landmarks.

FIAT & industry

Part of Italy's industrial triangle with Milan and Genoa — FIAT helped power the nation's post-war industrialisation.

Piedmont wine country

The surrounding countryside is famous for its agriculture — above all some of Italy's finest wines.

A top tourist city

Among the 250 most-visited cities in the world, and one of the ten most visited in all of Italy.
